Semi-Truck Crash Leaves One Hospitalized on I-15 in St. George, UT

Semi-Truck Crash Leaves One Hospitalized on I-15

St. George, UT (October 20, 2026) – A car and a semi-truck were involved in an injury crash on Interstate 15 near St. George the night of Monday, October 19. The driver, the only person in the car, was injured as a result.

The Utah Highway Patrol said the car moved over when another vehicle merged, then became pinned under the semi-truck. The driver was taken to hospital with serious injuries that were not life-threatening.

Police had not said whether the semi-truck's driver was injured. The investigation remains ongoing.

We wish the driver a full and speedy recovery.

How Trucking Regulations Shape Claims in St. George, UT

Many commercial trucks that cross state lines must follow federal motor carrier safety rules, which set limits on driving hours, require records of duty status, and call for regular inspection and maintenance.

Those rules create a paper trail that passenger cars do not have. In a claim where a large truck is involved, that paper trail can help show how a trip was scheduled and how the vehicle was kept up.

Some of that information is kept only for a limited time. Hours-of-service logs generally must be retained for six months, and data from a truck's engine computer or dash camera can be overwritten during normal use. A written preservation request sent early can ask a carrier to keep that material before it is lost.

Drivers in St. George shares the road with delivery and freight trucks, and a claim involving a commercial truck can involve several parties: the driver, the carrier, a maintenance contractor, or a cargo loader. Utah follows a modified comparative fault rule under which a claimant found 50 percent or more at fault cannot recover, and each defendant generally pays only its own share of fault, so identifying every party matters.

To make the legal journey easier to navigate, many people turn to a truck accident lawyer to send preservation requests to carriers and review logs and maintenance records.

Claims that involve commercial trucks tend to depend on records held by someone else, and our team at Cutt, Kendell & Olson Attorneys at Law can help you think through which ones to request. We can review your case and explain how federal trucking rules and Utah fault law may apply.
