Bio

Jacquelynn Carmichael is a trial lawyer and partner at Cutt, Kendell & Olson and has 30 years of experience representing and advocating for the needs of clients who have sustained catastrophic injuries due to the negligence of others. She has recovered millions of dollars in damages for her clients, including a jury verdict in a medical malpractice case of $14.5 million dollars for a little girl whose physicians failed to diagnose and treat a serious form of anemia resulting in a brain injury that claimed her sight, her ability to walk, and left her significantly disabled. Jackie’s practice involves all areas of personal injury, with an emphasis on medical malpractice, brain and spinal cord injuries and wrongful death. Jackie has successfully argued appeals to the Utah Court of Appeals obtaining a favorable decision as well as making great law for injured plaintiffs in Sohm v. Dixie Eye Center, 166 P.3d 614 (Utah Ct. App. 2007). As a personal injury attorney Jackie is passionate about helping injured clients. According to Jackie, “while it is impossible to erase a devastating injury for a client, being able to provide them with medical and financial resources that will improve the quality of their lives and provide options for them that they would not otherwise have is tremendously rewarding.”

Jackie graduated from the University of Utah S.J. Quinney College of Law in 1993 and spent the early years of her career not only advocating for injured clients but also spending a lot of time in the Courtroom, honing her trial skills as both a personal injury and criminal defense attorney. Jackie has always been actively engaged with the Utah State Bar and has served for many years on several of its committees, including the Lawyers Helping Lawyers committee and the Character and Fitness committee. Jackie has written articles for legal journals and has also been a featured speaker and faculty member at many continuing legal education programs for the State of Utah as well as for the American Association for Justice. She has received important professional honors during her career including “Attorneys to Watch” in 2015 Utah Business Magazine, Best Lawyers 2022 “Lawyer of the Year” for Personal Injury litigation and has been recognized as a Super Lawyer on multiple occasions.

Jackie believes in holding the entities and/or individuals that harm her clients accountable for their negligence. When Jackie takes a case to trial, she wants jurors to be able to understand the full extent and impact of her client’s injuries and believes simplicity is key in that endeavor. In the medical malpractice case where she obtained a $14.5 million jury verdict, one of the key pieces of evidence was a radiology image depicting the brain injury sustained by her client:

CT Scan of Head

As the old adage goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. This demonstrative exhibit helped jurors to understand and appreciate the magnitude of the brain injury that this young child suffered because of the doctors’ negligent care.

When Jackie is not working on cases for her clients, she enjoys spending time with her husband and two grown daughters traveling, scuba diving, cycling, hiking, running and most recently climbing Mount Kilimanjaro!
