Pinned Occupant Freed After Head-On Crash on Hwy 30

Beaver Dam, UT (October 8, 2026) – Two people were injured Tuesday, October 6, in a head-on rollover on Highway 30 near Beaver Dam. One of them was pinned inside a heavily damaged vehicle.

According to the Box Elder County Sheriff's Office, emergency units were dispatched around 12:42 p.m. and found two badly damaged vehicles.

A heavy extrication freed the trapped occupant, who was then flown by medical helicopter to a trauma center. The second patient was taken by ground ambulance to a local hospital for further evaluation.

The investigation into the wreck is ongoing.

We are thinking of both of them as they recover.

How Does No-Fault Insurance Work for Drivers in Box Elder County, UT?

Utah is a no-fault state, meaning each driver's own insurance first pays medical bills up to a set amount regardless of who caused the accident. Drivers must carry personal injury protection, or PIP, of at least $3,000 per person. Fault matters later, when someone seeks money beyond those benefits. Lost income and some other expenses may also be covered, depending on the policy.

Utah then sets a threshold for suing the other driver. Claims for pain and suffering and other general damages generally require death, dismemberment, permanent disability or impairment based on objective findings, permanent disfigurement, or medical expenses above $3,000, with certain exclusions. Meeting that line typically turns on how treatment is documented, so records and bills tend to matter early.

Losses that go beyond PIP limits, such as larger medical bills or lost wages, can generally be pursued against an at-fault driver. However, Utah's comparative fault rules bar recovery for a person found 50 percent or more responsible. A car accident lawyer can help review the policy, track whether the threshold has been met, and explain how PIP payments and other insurance may fit together.
