One Hospitalized After Truck Crash on I-84 in Morgan County, UT

One Hospitalized After Truck Crash on I-84

Morgan County, UT (October 9, 2026) – One person was hurt on Wednesday, October 7, when a passenger car collided with a semi-truck on Interstate 84.

According to Mountain Green Fire, the collision happened just after 6 p.m., while traffic was backed up because of construction.

Responders used heavy rescue tools to free the victim from the badly damaged car. The occupant was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The investigation into the accident remains ongoing.

Our thoughts are with the injured and we wish them a strong recovery.

What Safety Rules Do Semi-Truck Operators Have to Follow in Morgan County, UT?

Semi-truck drivers and the companies that employ them must follow federal motor carrier safety regulations covering driving hours, vehicle inspections, driver qualifications, and drug and alcohol testing.

Property-carrying drivers may drive up to 11 hours after 10 consecutive hours off duty, and trucks must be inspected and maintained under written standards. Trucks that move freight through Morgan County are generally held to these standards, and Utah follows the federal framework for commercial carriers.

Hours-of-service rules add more detail. Drivers also face a 14-hour on-duty window, a required 30-minute break after eight hours of driving, and weekly caps of 60 or 70 hours depending on the carrier's schedule. Most trucks record this data through electronic logging devices, but carriers keep the records for a limited time, so they can be lost if no one asks for them.

Maintenance and hiring records matter as much as driving hours. Carriers must keep driver qualification files, inspection and repair records, and drug and alcohol testing results, and most for-hire carriers hauling general freight must carry at least $750,000 in liability coverage.

When a rule was ignored, that may help show negligence by the driver, the carrier, or a company that handled maintenance. A truck accident lawyer can send an early preservation request to a trucking company and help interpret what the records show.
