Two Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash on WB I-80

Salt Lake City, UT (April 29, 2026) — A multi-vehicle collision involving a semi-truck claimed the lives of two young men on Sunday night, April 26, on Interstate 80. The crash occurred at approximately 10:23 p.m. near the 7200 West interchange.

Upon arrival, Utah Highway Patrol (UHP) troopers discovered a chaotic scene with two vehicles blocking the travel lanes and two others in the ditch. One of those vehicles had overturned. A semi-truck involved in the pileup was located a short distance away.

Tragically, two victims were pronounced dead at the scene. One has been identified as 20-year-old Conner Franco of Tooele, and the other was a 17-year-old male. Other victims were transported to local hospitals with injuries of unknown severity.

Investigators are working to determine the sequence of events.

Our heartfelt sympathies go out to the family and loved ones of the two people who lost their lives.

What Are Your Legal Rights After a Fatal Multi-Vehicle Accident in Salt Lake City, Utah

Following a fatal collision in Salt Lake City, surviving family members have the right to seek compensation for funeral expenses, lost financial support, and the loss of companionship through a wrongful death claim.

These rights are protected under state statutes designed to ensure financial stability and accountability when negligence results in a loss of life.

Under Utah law, the heirs of a deceased person or a court-appointed representative may file a wrongful death claim. This process is intended to provide financial stability for the survivors by seeking compensation for funeral expenses, the loss of financial support, and the profound loss of companionship and emotional guidance.

In accidents involving multiple vehicles, a legal investigation is essential to untangle the "chain of causation" and determine which party’s negligence initiated the fatal sequence.

Utah follows a "50% bar" rule for negligence. This means that a family can recover damages as long as their loved one was less than 50% responsible for the accident. However, if any fault is assigned to the victim, the total compensation will be reduced by that percentage.

In a multi-car pileup, insurance companies often attempt to shift blame among the drivers to avoid paying full settlements.

Accident reconstruction experts to analyze skid marks, dashcam footage, and vehicle rest positions are all vital resources to protecting the victim's record and your family's right to recovery.

While every Utah driver is required to carry Personal Injury Protection (PIP) to cover immediate costs, these minimums are rarely enough to address the total loss of a human life.

You should also investigate "Underinsured Motorist" (UIM) coverage on your own policies. This coverage acts as a safety net if the at-fault driver's insurance is insufficient to cover the full scope of the damages.

A Salt Lake City personal injury attorney can help identify every possible insurance "pool" to ensure the family does not face a financial crisis following the tragedy.
