Three Hurt in Head-On Crash on I-15 N in Cedar City, UT

Three Hurt in Head-On Crash on I-15 N

Cedar City, UT (November 2, 2026) – Three people were injured Sunday, November 1, when two vehicles met head-on on Interstate 15 north of Cedar City.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 3:30 p.m. near mile marker 63. A 2017 Toyota Camry was heading north when it hydroplaned, crossed the median, and struck a 2020 Lincoln MKZ.

A 55-year-old woman was driving the Camry. The Lincoln carried a 65-year-old man, who was driving, and a 61-year-old passenger. All three were wearing seat belts.

Injuries ranged from minor to moderate, and all three were taken to a hospital by ground ambulance.

Traffic backed up for nearly an hour while emergency units cleared the roadway.

Investigators are still reviewing the collision.

We are thinking of all three people as they recover.

How Utah's No-Fault Rules Affect Injury Claims in Cedar City, UT

Utah is a no-fault insurance state, which changes how most roadway injury claims begin. Drivers must carry personal injury protection(PIP) which pays initial medical expenses and may cover a portion of lost income up to the policy limit, regardless of who caused the harm. The required minimum is $3,000 in medical benefits per person, and many policies offer more.

PIP pays first, so a claim against another driver is limited at the start. Utah generally allows a lawsuit for general damages, such as pain and emotional distress, only when medical expenses exceed $3,000 or the injury involves permanent disability, permanent impairment, dismemberment, disfigurement, or death. Imaging and emergency treatment alone can bring a bill close to that figure.

Records typically determine how quickly that threshold is met. After a crash, occupants may see urgent care, specialists, and physical therapists in different places, so it can help to keep itemized bills in one folder.

Insurers also review whether each charge is reasonable and related to the injury. A car accident lawyer can check how medical expenses are being counted and make sure all the evidence needed is gathered well before the four-year filing Utah generally allows for injury lawsuits.
