Iron County, UT (November 4, 2026) – Two people in a passenger car died late Tuesday morning, November 3, after their car and a school bus met at an intersection on Beryl Highway. Two women on the bus went to hospitals with injuries.
According to the Iron County Sheriff’s Office, the crash happened around 11:30 a.m. at the intersection of 3200 North and Beryl Highway. The car's driver was a man, and his passenger was a woman.
The bus driver and an aide were the only ones on board. Emergency units took one of them to Cedar City Hospital by ambulance, and the other was flown to St. George Regional Hospital.
No children were on the bus, which serves Escalante Valley Elementary in Beryl. Morning preschool drop-off had just ended, and afternoon pickups hadn't started yet.
The investigation into this accident remains ongoing.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to the loved ones of both who lost their lives.
Who Can File a Wrongful Death Claim in Iron County, UT?
In Utah, a wrongful death claim can be brought by the person's heirs, such as a spouse, children, or parents, or by the personal representative of the estate on their behalf. Utah generally requires the claim to be filed within two years of the death, and missing that deadline can end the case.
Utah allows families to seek both financial and personal losses. That can include the income and support the person would have provided, funeral and burial costs, and medical bills from before the death. Families may also seek compensation for the loss of the person's love, companionship, and guidance, which often makes up a large part of these claims.
Fault still matters. Utah reduces a family's recovery by any share of blame placed on the person who was killed, and it generally bars recovery if that share reaches 50 percent or more.
When a government-owned vehicle is involved, Utah usually requires a written notice of claim within one year, which can come well before the two-year deadline. A wrongful death lawyer can identify which heirs may bring the claim, confirm which deadlines apply, and gather evidence on how fault may be split.
