Parowan, UT (June 15, 2026) – One young girl died, and another was seriously injured on Friday evening, June 12, when their side-by-side vehicle burst into flames.
Shortly before 7:00 p.m., emergency personnel and deputies from the Iron County Sheriff’s Office responded after 911 calls reported a vehicle fire.
Initial reports from investigators say that two girls, ages 12 and 13, were driving a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) near the local fairgrounds when the UTV caught fire.
One of the young girls managed to get out of the burning vehicle with life-threatening injuries, while the second girl was trapped in the cabin. Unfortunately, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The surviving passenger was transported by ambulance to a regional medical facility for further assessment and treatment.
The Iron County Sheriff’s Office is leading the investigation.
Our hearts go out to the family and loved ones of the girl who lost her life, and we hope the injured girl makes a full recovery.
What Legal Options Do Families Have After a Fatal Side-by-Side Vehicle Accident in Utah?
If a side-by-side vehicle caught fire due to a mechanical problem or design error, families may pursue a product liability claim against the manufacturer of the vehicle.
Under Utah law, the parents or a court-appointed personal representative may bring this action on behalf of the survivors to hold the responsible parties accountable. With the help of proper legal counsel, the family will be able to recover compensation for burial and funeral expenses, pre-death medical costs, and the profound loss of emotional support and companionship.
A legal question arises when investigating a side-by-side vehicle fire: whether a design defect, such as a hot exhaust header, ignited gasoline and started the fire.
To answer this question, specialists in accident reconstruction must conduct a detailed product liability investigation, examining the burned wreckage, analyzing tire track patterns, and downloading data from the vehicle's electronic modules before the evidence is altered or destroyed.
If this forensic analysis proves that a manufacturing or design defect caused the fire, the manufacturing company can be held strictly liable for the resulting catastrophe.
Because preserving this evidence is time-sensitive, a wrongful death lawyer can provide vital support during this terrible time by immediately sending official preservation notices to prevent insurance companies from crushing or disposing of the vehicle debris.
In addition to safeguarding physical evidence, legal advice serves as a shield for the family’s rights by identifying and exploring all potential sources of financial recovery, including corporate product liability insurance.
Ultimately, by handling the complicated paperwork and protecting the family from pushy insurance adjusters, an attorney allows grieving family members to focus all of their energies on supporting one another and honoring their loved one's memory.
