How Utah Law Treats Injuries to Young Riders in Hyrum, UT
Utah law recognizes that children usually can't be held to the same standard of care as adults when it comes to judging traffic or road hazards, which can affect how fault is assigned after a crash involving a young rider. Drivers are generally expected to exercise added caution in areas where children are known to be present.
Injuries to a young rider struck by a vehicle can range from bruising and fractures to more serious trauma, even in incidents that initially seem minor. Leg and hip injuries are common in scooter or bike collisions, and some may require ongoing monitoring or physical therapy. Prompt medical evaluation helps ensure nothing is overlooked in the early hours after such an event.
Families tend to face a lot of uncertainty after a child is injured in a crash. A personal injury lawyer can help families understand how a driver's duty of care applies when a child is involved, since courts tend to weigh a child's age and judgment differently than an adult's.
