What Can Passengers Do After a Crash in Washington County, UT?

After a crash, a passenger in Utah can generally seek compensation without having caused the collision. Medical bills may first be paid through personal injury protection under the vehicle's no-fault policy, which carries a $3,000 minimum per person in Utah. Beyond that, a passenger may pursue a claim against any driver whose negligence contributed.

Utah divides fault among the parties responsible, and each is generally liable only for its own share. For a passenger, that can mean more than one insurance policy is in play, such as the policy covering the vehicle they were riding in and the policy of another driver.

Passengers also tend to hold useful evidence, since they typically saw what happened inside and outside the vehicle. Their medical records, photos, and written notes about the day can all support a claim.

Many passengers ask a car accident lawyer to review the available coverage, including any underinsured motorist coverage, before they speak with insurers. Utah generally allows four years to file a personal injury lawsuit, but coverage questions tend to come up much sooner.
