Four-Vehicle Crash Causes Injuries on I-80 Near Salt Lake City, UT

Four-Vehicle Crash Causes Injuries on I-80

Salt Lake City, UT (October 13, 2026) – Several people were injured in a four-vehicle wreck on eastbound Interstate 80 near mile marker 128 in the Parleys Canyon area of Salt Lake City on Monday, October 12. The collision was reported shortly before 6 a.m.

According to the Utah Highway Patrol, one vehicle overturned and another car struck it. An approaching truck stopped, and a fourth vehicle rear-ended the truck. The driver of the fourth vehicle left, while the other drivers remained.

Those involved received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries at the crash site. Crews closed the left lane while they investigated the crash and cleared the roadway.

The Utah Department of Transportation warned drivers about delays and recommended alternate routes, including eastbound Interstate 215. A trooper expected the roadway to fully reopen around 7 a.m.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

We wish everyone injured a full and steady recovery.

How Is Fault Determined After a Multi-Vehicle Crash in Salt Lake City, UT?

Fault after a multi-vehicle crash in Salt Lake City is determined by examining how the collisions occurred and whether each driver’s actions contributed. Speed, following distance, lane position, and attention to stopped traffic can all play a role. More than one driver may share fault.

To determine what happened, crash reports, photographs, available video footage, vehicle damage, and eyewitness accounts can help establish the sequence of collisions. These details can also help clarify each driver’s role in the crash.

If several drivers contributed to the crash, Utah law assigns each a percentage of fault. Your compensation is generally reduced by your share of responsibility. If you are 50% or more at fault, you generally cannot recover damages.

In Utah, you generally have four years to file a personal injury lawsuit after a car accident, although some exceptions apply. Missing the applicable deadline could prevent you from pursuing your claim in court.

If fault is disputed, a car accident lawyer in Salt Lake City can review the available evidence and help determine who may be responsible. An attorney can also handle discussions with insurance companies and help protect your rights throughout the claims process.
