Cedar City, UT (October 15, 2026) – A driver was cited for failure to yield after her metallic brown Subaru Outback turned in front of a patrol SUV on Wednesday, October 14.
According to Cedar City Police, the collision happened shortly after 2 p.m. at Main Street and 1325 North.
Initial reports said the white Dodge Durango was heading south on Main Street. The Subaru driver was turning left onto westbound 1325 North when the two SUVs met.
Both troopers inside the vehicles were taken to a hospital emergency room as a precaution to control their injuries. The injuries were considered minor. The Subaru driver was also taken to a hospital as a precaution because of chest pain.
Both vehicles had heavy front-end damage and were towed. Emergency units closed lanes and set up detours while they cleared the busy intersection.
The investigation into the wreck remains ongoing.
We wish everyone a full recovery.
Does Utah's No-Fault Insurance Cover Medical Bills in Cedar City, UT?
Utah is a no-fault state, so drivers must carry personal injury protection, also known as PIP, with at least $3,000 in benefits per person. PIP pays medical expenses and certain other limited costs no matter who caused the accident, and it usually pays before any claim against another driver's liability coverage.
That $3,000 figure is where many Utah claims get complicated. A person can generally step outside the no-fault system and pursue a claim against an at-fault driver only after medical expenses pass the threshold or the injury falls into a listed serious category, such as permanent disability, permanent disfigurement, dismemberment, or death.
Emergency room visits, imaging, and follow-up appointments can add up quickly, so it is important to keep every bill and treatment record.
Many drivers in Cedar City travel busy roads regularly, and out-of-state visitors on those roads may carry different policies. That can make it harder to tell which coverage applies first. A car accident lawyer can review how PIP benefits were applied, whether treatment costs reach the threshold, and what other coverage may be available.
