According to the Utah Highway Patrol, a Honda passenger car carrying five people was traveling west on I-80 when it left the roadway and overturned. Two people inside the vehicle were ejected.

One of the two people ejected died from their injuries. Emergency crews took the other four occupants to nearby hospitals with serious injuries.

What Compensation Can Families Receive After a Fatal Crash in Aragonite, UT?

Families may be able to recover compensation for funeral and burial expenses, final medical costs, lost income, financial support, and the loss of companionship, care, and guidance after a fatal crash in Aragonite. The damages available depend on the family’s losses.

When a loved one provided income to the household, their death can create long-term financial strain. Compensation may account for wages, employment benefits, household services, and other financial contributions the person likely would have provided over time.

While financial losses can be significant, families may also seek compensation for the loss of companionship, affection, care, guidance, and support. These damages recognize how an unexpected death can change family relationships and everyday life for years.

In most cases, Utah law allows a wrongful death claim when another person’s wrongful act or negligence causes a death. A claim may be pursued for qualifying heirs, with eligibility depending on their relationship to the person who died.

As the claim moves forward, families can keep employment records, medical bills, funeral expenses, and other financial documents organized. These records can help show the financial effect of the death and support the losses included in a wrongful death claim.

If questions arise during the legal process, a wrongful death lawyer can review insurance coverage, evaluate damages, communicate with insurers, and explain who may pursue a claim. An attorney can also help families understand each stage of the process.

At Cutt, Kendell & Olson, we help Utah families understand their legal options after fatal motor vehicle crashes. Our team reviews the circumstances of each case and explains how a wrongful death claim may apply.
